B2B Catalogs FAQs
Applies toShopify
Setup and pricing
Yes. B2B Catalogs is a free standalone Shopify app, included with every SparkLayer plan, including the free plan. Install it from the Shopify App Store (opens in a new tab). See Plans and features.
No. Your merchandising team can manage everything. Tag a product and save it, and the change goes live straight away. There are no manual theme edits, no custom code and no waiting for a release. To get started, see Install and enable B2B Catalogs.
Visibility
On product pages, collection pages and in store search results. If a customer opens a hidden product's URL directly, they see an "access denied" page, which you can customise. A hidden product can still take a place in a collection grid and count towards product and filter totals: see Collection grids, search and filter counts.
For how this compares with hiding a product with the sparklayer.settings metafield alone, see What hides what.
Products tagged b2b-only still appear in the sitemap that Shopify generates automatically. The product pages themselves aren't visible to search engines, so they won't show up in external search results.
To remove these products from your sitemap completely, follow Shopify's guidance on hiding products from search engines (opens in a new tab). This may also stop those products appearing in your store's own search results.
Yes, with the SparkLayer Wholesale app as well. The sparklayer.settings variant metafield shows or hides products for each customer group.
For example, you could hide a product from all B2B customers except your VIP group. Or you could hide a range from one group while keeping it visible to everyone else. See the worked example in A product range for each customer group.
See Catalogs per customer group for how the rules work.
For B2B customer groups, yes, with the SparkLayer Wholesale app as well. For example, your wholesale group could see a 12-pack case that your VIP group doesn't. See Catalogs per customer group.
Not for retail (B2C) customers: variant rules don't hide anything from them, and Shopify can't hide a single variant of a product. To sell the 12-pack case to B2B customers only, make it a separate product and tag it b2b-only. See Variants and retail shoppers.
Disabling and uninstalling
The visibility rules are removed from that theme. If you've customised snippets/sparklayer-b2b-catalogs-access-denied.liquid, your changes are removed too, so keep a copy of them before you disable it.
First disable it on every theme where it's enabled: open the app in your Shopify admin and click Disable on each enabled theme. Then uninstall the app.
If you've already uninstalled it without disabling it first, reinstall it temporarily, disable it on your themes, then uninstall it again.
Getting help
Our support team can help you set up and troubleshoot B2B Catalogs on your store. Email support@sparklayer.io, or click the message icon (a purple speech bubble) in the B2B Catalogs app or at the bottom right of this page.
So we can help quickly, tell us what your query is about and include any screenshots that show the problem.
We aim to reply to every query within 24 hours, but allow up to 2 working days. The message icon isn't a live chat that's always staffed, so you won't always get a reply in real time. See Contact support for when our team is available.
