Pricing FAQs
Setting up prices
Yes. SparkLayer matches prices to products by SKU. Without a unique SKU in your store (for example Shopify), a product can't show the right B2B price when customers sign in.
Check that:
- You've imported a price list at Pricing,Price lists (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab) and assigned it to a customer group at Customers,Groups (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab).
- All your products have unique SKUs.
- The SKU exists in your product catalogue.
- The product's status in your store admin is Active. SparkLayer only imports prices for active products, not products in Draft status.
Then follow the steps in diagnosing pricing issues.
Turn on Tax-inclusive prices at Settings,Configurations,Pricing and cart (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab). It shows gross prices, labelled "inc. tax", on the price lists you choose. Prices are still charged net, and tax is calculated at checkout. See tax-inclusive price display.
By default, SparkLayer shows prices net (excluding tax), whatever tax setting you use on your store. Customers see exactly the prices you upload.
Some merchants use a workaround instead:
- Set the customer as tax exempt in your eCommerce platform (for example Shopify), so their orders are zero-rated for tax.
- In the price lists you upload to SparkLayer, enter gross amounts (even though they don't technically include tax).
- Report on the tax amounts afterwards, for example in your accounting system.
Add an rrp metafield to your product variants. See Show an RRP (MSRP) price.
SparkLayer supports several currencies by default: create a price list in each currency and assign it to the right customers. On Shopify, see Shopify Markets and currencies.
Yes. Use a percentage increase on an automatic price list, or upload the higher prices.
Not directly: SparkLayer has no built-in way to apply B2B pricing to selected collections (or categories). As a workaround:
- Create a separate price list for each collection you need (Collection A, Collection B and so on).
- At Customers,Groups (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab), assign the price lists each customer group should see. You can assign several price lists to a customer group.
Automatic price lists
Create a price list and tick Enable automatic pricing, choose your store's prices as the pricing source and apply a percentage variation. See Set up automatic pricing.
Set exact prices for those products on the automatic list. This lets you automate your pricing and still set specific prices for some products.
- For one product: in the Pricing,Price editor (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab), open the variant and click Override for this SKU on the list's card. See Override an automatic price for one SKU.
- For many products: at Pricing,Price lists (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab), click Upload next to your automatic price list and upload a CSV file with the prices you want to set. See Upload prices by CSV.
The list's Type then shows how many SKUs you've set, for example Automatic + 12 SKU.
Straight away. Price changes in your platform update your automatic price lists instantly.
Manual price lists
| To remove | Do this |
|---|---|
| Some prices for one product | In the Pricing,Price editor (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab), search for the product, open the variant and click Remove next to the prices you want to delete. |
| Prices for several SKUs | Clear the price list (below), then upload a CSV file with only the prices you want to keep. A blank price in a CSV file doesn't remove a price. |
| Every price for every product | Open the ⋯ menu next to the price list, click Clear, then Clear prices. |
At Pricing,Price lists (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab), open the ⋯ menu next to the price list, click Clear, then Clear prices. This removes every SKU price uploaded to the list. On an automatic list, the automatic rule stays.
- Download the price list as a CSV file: at Pricing,Price lists (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab), open the ⋯ menu next to the price list and click Download CSV.
- Search for a product in the Price editor and open the variant to see its price on every list.
- Sign in to your store as a B2B customer and view the product page. See Test as a B2B customer to make sure you're signed in correctly.
Assigning prices to customers
Yes. At Customers,Groups (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab), click the group's name and find Price lists (click + Override if it's under Inherited rules). Click Add price list to add another, then click Save in the save bar. See Assign a price list to customers.
If a SKU is in more than one of the price lists, the first list it's in wins: see Which price list wins. To give a single customer several price lists, see Prices for one customer.
The first price list, in the order shown on the customer group, that contains the SKU. See Which price list wins.
Add the price list's handle to the customer's price lists field (the price_lists metafield) on their record in your store admin. The customer then sees that price list instead of their customer group's. See Give a customer their own price lists.
Quantity pricing
Add a qty column to your price list CSV, with a row for each price break. See Quantity pricing.
Yes. When you import a price list with tiered pricing, include a price for a single unit for every SKU. For example:
sku,price,qty
123-abc,14.99,1
123-abc,10.99,5Discounts
Create a discount and require a coupon code, for example a code that gives 10% off the order. Discounts need the Growth plan. See Require a coupon code.
Add a rule to the discount: under Rules, click New rule and choose the products, collections or tags the cart must include. See Restrict a discount to certain products. For more off as the quantity goes up, use volume tiers.
Without discounts, there's a workaround:
- Create a new product in your catalogue with a variant for each product you want to include in the offer.
- Set a minimum product quantity, which makes the customer order at least a set number of the product (for example 3).
- Use quantity pricing to set the discounted rates (for example buy 3 and the price is 10% lower).
- In Shopify, hide these products from retail customers by not adding them to a collection.
Use order sub-total limits or order item limits, so a discount applies once the order total or the number of items reaches a threshold. See Set minimum or maximum order requirements.
Diagnosing pricing issues
If prices still aren't right after the checks above, find where the price is missing. To check whether a product has prices on a price list:
- Go to the Pricing,Price editor (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab) and search for the product's name or SKU.
- Open the variant.
- Check its card for each price list. A manual list without a price for the SKU means customers on that list won't see a price from it.
To check that SparkLayer has the product at all, use Product data lookup at Integrations,Product sync (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab). See Product and customer sync.
If you're using the SparkLayer API, your developer can also check the price data there.
For other common problems, see Troubleshooting.
