Activity and connected AI apps
Open the Activity drawer
- Go to Ask SparkLayer.
- Click the clock icon, Activity and connections, at the top right.
The Activity drawer opens beside the chat. Click Close to hide it. On a phone it fills the screen.
The daily limit
The top of the drawer, Today on your store and environment, shows Changes applied today. It has a bar and a count, such as 3 of 25 changes applied.
You can apply up to 25 changes a day on each environment. Changes from Ask Sparkie and every connected AI app count together. The limit stops an AI app making changes in a loop. It resets at midnight, and asking questions is never limited. See Limits.
The activity log
The Activity log lists your most recent proposals and changes, newest first. Each entry shows:
| Part | Example |
|---|---|
| What happened | The change's title, with an icon for its status |
| Who and how | Applied by Sam via Ask Sparkie, Proposed by…, or Discarded by… |
| Where and when | Live or Test, and how long ago |
| Reference | The tool that ran and the proposal's ID |
Every proposal and applied change from any AI app is logged, with who approved it. Changes made in the dashboard are logged too, marked via Dashboard. That way, you see everything that changed your price lists and customer groups in one place. A change edited with Open in form before saving is marked (edited in the form).
Before anything has happened, the log says No activity yet.
Connected AI apps
The Connected AI apps section lists every app that can work on your store, what it can do and which environments it works on.
| App | Works on | What it can do | Control |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ask Sparkie | Live and Test | Read, propose and apply | Built in |
| Shopify Sidekick | Live and Test | Answer questions only (read only) | Included |
| Claude | The stores you tick | What you allow when you connect it | Connect or Disconnect |
| ChatGPT | The stores you tick | What you allow when you connect it | Connect or Disconnect |
Ask Sparkie and Sidekick can't be disconnected. Sidekick works inside Shopify admin. See Shopify Sidekick.
Claude, ChatGPT and other AI apps connect through the SparkLayer MCP, which explains what they can do. Every app follows the same rules as Ask Sparkie:
- Changes are prepared as proposals
- Live changes need approval
- The daily limit applies
- Everything appears in the activity log
Connect an AI app
- In the Activity drawer, under Connected AI apps, click Connect next to the app.
- Under Stores, tick where it can work: your live store ("Changes affect what buyers see"), your test store ("Safe to experiment") or both. Test is ticked to start with.
- Under What it can do, choose:
- See your store setup, price lists and customer groups
- Suggest changes for you to approve
- Apply changes you approve. Leave this off to keep every change for you to apply in SparkLayer.
- Click Allow.
The app then appears with what it can do and when you connected it, such as Live · Read, propose and apply · since Sep 12. You can disconnect it here at any time.
More detail
- You must tick at least one store, or you see Tick at least one store.
- With Apply changes you approve off, the app can prepare proposals but not apply them. Open Ask Sparkie to check and apply them yourself.
- Starting on test only is a safe way to try an app.
Disconnect an AI app
- In Connected AI apps, click Disconnect next to the app.
- A window asks if you want to disconnect the app. Click Disconnect.
The app loses access to your store straight away. Changes it already made stay in place and in your activity log. To reverse one, use Undo this change or edit it in the dashboard.
Choose the store and environment
The button at the top right of the chat shows the store Ask Sparkie works on, with a Live or Test badge.
| Environment | What it means |
|---|---|
| Live | Your live store. Applied changes are what buyers see the next time a page loads, so applying asks you to confirm. |
| Test | Your test store. Changes apply straight away and buyers on your live store don't see them. Use it to try a change first. |
To switch, click the store button and choose Live or Test. The chat notes the switch, and new changes are proposed on the environment you chose.
More detail
- Proposals you already have stay on the environment they were made for. A live proposal still applies to live after you switch to test.
- The daily limit of 25 applied changes counts separately on live and on test.
- The rest of the SparkLayer app always works on your live store. Live and Test only apply in Ask Sparkie and to connected AI apps. For more about test stores, see Test mode.
FAQs
No. Its changes stay in place and in your activity log. To reverse them, undo them from the chat or change them in the dashboard.
Shopify only
There's nothing to switch off. Sidekick is included with SparkLayer on Shopify and can only answer questions. It can't make changes.
