Give a key account their own prices
Most buyers get their prices from their customer group. For a key account, you set a price list at a more specific level, and the most specific one wins. See What overrides what.
Before you start
- Their prices, or the rule for them, for example 30% off retail, or a spreadsheet of exact prices by SKU.
- Your standard trade prices set up. If not, follow Set up wholesale prices first.
- The account in SparkLayer. Find the customer at Customers (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab).
Give them their prices
Choose how to give them their prices
| For | Use | Where you set it |
|---|---|---|
| One customer | Their own price lists, with customer pricing | On their record in your store |
| One customer, a little extra off | An extra percentage discount on top of their usual prices | On their record in your store |
| Several key accounts on the same terms | A customer group of their own | In SparkLayer, on every platform |
For an extra percentage off, skip to step 4.
Create their price list
Go to Pricing,Price lists (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab), click Create price list and add their prices, automatically or by CSV. Note the list's Handle, shown under its name, such as acme-pricing. See Create a price list. Take the 1-minute tour.
Give the price list to the account
Shopify only
For one customer: add the price lists metafield to your store once, at Integrations,Platform,Metafields (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab) (click Configure next to SparkLayer metafields). Then open the customer in your Shopify admin and enter the handle in their price lists metafield, for example ["acme-pricing"]. Save the customer.
BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Magento only
Enter the price list's handle in the customer's price_lists metafield (or attribute), for example ["acme-pricing"], and save the customer. Your developer or agency can set up the field: see Give a customer their own price lists.
Wix only
Wix doesn't support metafields, so customer pricing isn't available. Create a customer group for the account with its own price list, then add the group's label to the contact. See Create a customer group.
A customer's own price lists replace their group's price lists.
Add an extra percentage off
Optional. A customer discount takes an extra percentage off whatever prices the customer already gets.
Shopify only
Enable the customer discount once at Integrations,Platform,Metafields (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab). Then open the customer in your Shopify admin and, in the Metafields card, enter the percentage in Customer % Discount, for example 25. Save the customer.
BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Magento only
Set the discount_percentage metafield (or attribute) on the customer, for example 25. Your developer or agency can set up the field.
Check which price wins
Open the customer at Customers (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab). Price list override under Basic information and Discount percentage under Financial details show what's set on them.
If you've given a group more than one price list, order matters: SparkLayer uses the first list a SKU is in. See How a buyer's price is chosen. Take the 1-minute tour.
Check it worked
- Sign in as someone at the account and open a product on their price list. They see its price from that list, less any extra percentage.
- Sign in as another buyer in the same group. They still see the group's prices.
- Search the SKU at Pricing,Price editor (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab) to compare its price in each list.
If something's not right
- They still see the group's prices. Check the handle is typed exactly, inside square brackets and double quotes, and that the account has synced. See Prices for one customer.
- They see a price from the wrong list. The SKU is in an earlier list on their group. See Can I assign several price lists to one customer group or customer?
- A price is different from what you expect. Your store prices may include tax. See Prices are different from what you expect.
- Checkout shows PRICING:001. The account has price lists in 2 currencies. See Customers see "An unknown error occurred" at checkout.
