Set up your wholesale with Ask Sparkie
Applies toShopify
This is the quickest way through Setup, straight after you install SparkLayer Wholesale. It takes care of the first 2 steps for you, and leads you into the third.
Before you start
- SparkLayer Wholesale is installed on your store, under Sales channels in your Shopify admin. See Install SparkLayer on Shopify.
- Every product you sell wholesale has a unique SKU. SparkLayer matches prices to products by SKU.
- You know your usual trade discount: roughly how much off your retail prices trade buyers get. You can change it later.
Set up your wholesale
Start the guided setup
In your Shopify admin, open SparkLayer Wholesale. On
SparkLayer Wholesale (in your Shopify admin), click Set up my wholesale under the box at the top. Or go to
SparkLayer Wholesale,Ask SparkLayer (in your Shopify admin) and click Set up my wholesale under Suggested for you.
Answer three questions
Click an answer to each, or choose Other and type your own:
- How much off your retail prices do trade buyers usually get? 15%, 20%, 25% or 30%.
- Who are your wholesale buyers? Shops and retailers, Distributors or Both.
- Should wholesale orders have a minimum? No minimum, $250 minimum or $500 minimum.
Check the two proposals
Ask Sparkie prepares a price list and a customer group, shown as 2 cards. Check the names, the discount, the minimum order and the Live or Test badge. Nothing is saved yet.
More detail
Want to try it out first? Switch the store button at the top of the chat to Test before you start. See Choose the store and environment.
Apply them
To change something first, click Open in form on a card. When you're happy, click Apply both to live, then Apply to live to confirm. Ask Sparkie replies Done. and suggests the next step. See Review and apply changes.
Invite your first buyer
Click Invite my first buyer. Ask Sparkie opens the Invite a buyer form, so the buyer gets a proper invite from Shopify.
- Enter their First name, Last name and Email.
- Choose their Company, if they're a contact at a Shopify B2B company, and the Customer group you just created.
- Click Send invite.
Shopify emails them an invite to your store. They sign in with a one-time code, with no password, and see their trade prices straight away. See Invite a buyer.
Finish your setup
Go to
SparkLayer Wholesale,Setup (in your Shopify admin) to check the rest, including adding SparkLayer to your theme: see Theme setup. Then place a test order as a buyer: see Try it out.
What gets created
Ask Sparkie creates 2 things, which you can change at any time.
| What's created | What Ask Sparkie sets up | Find it at |
|---|---|---|
| Price list | Called "Trade" and your discount, for example Trade 25%: that percentage off your retail prices, on all your products. It follows your retail prices, so it stays up to date when they change. | |
| Customer group | Called Retailers, Distributors or Trade, depending on your buyers. It uses the new price list and has your minimum order. Customers join it through its Shopify tag, such as b2b-retailers. |
If you already have a price list or customer group with the same name, Ask Sparkie uses or updates it rather than creating a second one.
See Price lists and Customer groups for everything they can do.
Give an existing group a price list
If you already have price lists and customer groups, tell Ask Sparkie how to link them. For example:
- "Use "Trade 20%" for Retailers"
- "Set the minimum order for Retailers to $500"
Each request gives you a proposal to check and apply. You can also start from
SparkLayer Wholesale,Setup (in your Shopify admin): on Assign a price list to a customer group, click Do it with Ask Sparkie.
Check your setup
To check nothing's missing, ask "Is my wholesale setup complete?", or click Check my setup with Ask Sparkie on
SparkLayer Wholesale,Setup (in your Shopify admin). Ask Sparkie checks your products, price lists and customer groups. It points out any group without a price list, because those buyers see retail prices. See Check your setup.
The Setup checklist
SparkLayer Wholesale,Setup (in your Shopify admin) shows how far you've got, such as 3 of 5 steps complete, in 2 groups. Each step's status comes from your store, so it ticks itself off when it's done.
| Step | What it means | How to do it |
|---|---|---|
| Set up a price list | Price lists set the prices your B2B customers see. | Create a price list, or Do it with Ask Sparkie |
| Assign a price list to a customer group | Customer groups decide which price list a buyer sees when they log in. | Open customer groups, or Do it with Ask Sparkie |
| Invite your first buyer | A buyer sees your trade prices as soon as they log in. | Invite a buyer, or tag a customer b2b in Shopify |
| Add SparkLayer to your theme | SparkLayer is set up on your theme, ready to show B2B prices. | Review theme setup: see Theme setup |
| Publish theme | The theme with SparkLayer is published and live for your customers. | Publish it in Shopify admin |
The theme steps apply to the theme you choose under Select theme. When every step is done, Setup shows You're ready to go with SparkLayer.
