Get started

Steps for

If price lists and customer groups are new to you, read How SparkLayer works first. It explains the ideas these steps rely on in a few minutes.

Not sure where to start?Answer 4 quick questions and get a setup guide made for your store: the guides you need, in the order you need them.Build my guide

Before you start

  • SparkLayer installed on your store. On Shopify, install the SparkLayer Wholesale app: see Install SparkLayer on Shopify. On other platforms, see Other platforms.
  • Your B2B prices, or the rule for them, for example 20% off your retail prices. A spreadsheet of prices by SKU is fine.
  • An email address for your first buyer: a real trade customer, or an address of your own to test with.

How setup works

The 5 Setup steps

1. Price list

The prices your B2B customers see
(this flows forward)

2. Customer group

Decides which buyers see that price list
(this flows forward)

3. First buyer

Added, and sees trade prices when they sign in
(this flows forward)

4. Theme

SparkLayer added to your theme
(this flows forward)

5. Publish

The theme is live for your customers

The Setup page lists the steps in 2 groups: SparkLayer setup (steps 1 to 3) and Theme setup (steps 4 and 5, for your Shopify theme). Each step shows Complete or To do, based on your store's data. A step ticks itself off once it's done, however you did it.

VersionWhere to find Setup
Shopify appSetup, in the menu under SparkLayer Wholesale in your Shopify admin.
SparkLayer DashboardOn Home, click Open Setup on the Get your first wholesale order card. There's no Setup item in the menu.
The setup card on Home

Until your first order comes in, Home shows a Get your first wholesale order card. It has the same 5 steps, a progress bar and a Next box with the next step's button. After your first order, the card becomes Get live with SparkLayer until every step is complete. You can minimise or dismiss the card. The steps are always on the Setup page.

Walk through a working copy of Home > Setup, step by step. Nothing you do here changes your store.

Set up a price list

Price lists set the prices your B2B customers see. On the step, click Create a price list.

More detail

You can also go to Pricing,Price lists (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab) and click Create price list. A price list can be worked out from your retail prices (for example, 20% off), uploaded as exact prices by CSV, or sent from another system. The free Basic plan includes 3 price lists. See Managing pricing.

Assign a price list to a customer group

Customer groups decide which price list a buyer sees when they sign in. Click Open customer groups, open a group and choose its Price list.

More detail

Customer groups are at Customers,Groups (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab). Every store starts with a Base customer group, whose settings every B2B customer gets. That's enough to get going. Create more groups when some buyers need different prices, payment methods or a minimum order. See Customer groups.

Add your first buyer

The step completes once any customer group has customers. To add them yourself, tag them b2b in your Shopify admin (see Add B2B customers on Shopify), or approve a registration form entry in Forms.

Add SparkLayer to your theme

SparkLayer adds its B2B pricing, cart and account area to your Shopify theme. On most themes, this is set up for you. Click Review theme setup to check each block. On other platforms, add the widgets as your platform guide describes: see Other platforms.

Shopify only

The theme steps apply to the theme chosen under Select theme. Your published theme is marked Active. Theme setup shows which SparkLayer blocks are on, and opens the theme editor at any of them. If something isn't right, our team installs SparkLayer for you, free. Click Something not right? Install SparkLayer for me there, or Request installation at Storefront,Widgets (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab).

Publish your theme

Publish the theme you set SparkLayer up on. The step completes when that theme is published and active for your customers.

More detail

When all 5 steps are complete, Setup shows You're ready to go with SparkLayer. Next, place a test order with Try it out, then work through the Launch checklist.

We can set it up with you

On every plan, our team installs the storefront widgets for you, free, usually within days. On a paid plan, an onboarding session can also set up your first price lists with you. Click Book setup call at the top of Setup, or Book free setup on Home. To message our team, click Chat with support at the top of Setup. See Contact support.

Other platforms

On BigCommerce, Wix, WooCommerce and Magento, setup follows the same idea in a different order. The Setup checklist in the SparkLayer Dashboard is only for Shopify stores.

  1. Install SparkLayer and connect your store with your platform's guide: BigCommerce, Wix, WooCommerce or Magento.
  2. Set up a price list at Pricing,Price lists (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab), as in step 1.
  3. Assign it to a customer group at Customers,Groups (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab), as in step 2.
  4. Mark your B2B customers in your platform: a BigCommerce customer group whose name starts with B2B, the b2b label on Wix, a SparkLayer B2B role on WooCommerce, or a B2B: customer group on Magento. See Customer groups.
  5. Add the widgets to your theme as your platform guide describes. Our team can do it for you, free: see Request free installation.
  6. Test, then launch with the Launch checklist.

Optional: connect your other systems

You don't need this to get started. On the Pro plan, you can send price lists, customer rules and product data, such as pack sizes, from an ERP, CRM or other system. This is usually a job for your developer or integration partner, using the SparkLayer API. Create an API key at Settings,API (opens in your SparkLayer Dashboard in a new tab), or use a ready-made integration.
