Steps for

What Pulse does for you

You look after a set of accounts, sometimes called your book. Pulse reads those accounts' orders, quotes, carts, invoices and trade applications, and turns them into a list of things to do: who's due to reorder, who has gone quiet, which customers are waiting on a reply, which quotes are going stale and which invoices are overdue.

Every row opens the record behind it. Every Order button takes you into the storefront, signed in as that customer.

Pulse doesn't change your store's SparkLayer settings. Customers, pricing and sales agents are still managed in the SparkLayer Dashboard or the SparkLayer Wholesale app in Shopify.

Where Pulse fits in the Sales reps section

Pulse is one of 3 parts of the Help Center's Sales reps section:

PartWho it's forUse it to
Pulse (this part, early access)You, the sales repPlan the day, follow up and keep track of your accounts.
Sales rep orderingYou, the sales repTake an order for a customer: in the cart, from the Catalog or at a trade counter with Counter mode.
Sales rep setupYour store owner or adminMake someone a sales agent, and choose which customers they see and what their role lets them do.

Before you start

Your store owner or admin sets these up. If an account, invoice or quote is missing from Pulse, check these with them.

  • Pulse turned on for your store. It's on every paid plan, and in early access: request it from the callout at the top of this page.
  • A sales agent account. See Make someone a sales agent.
  • The right customers. Pulse shows the customers your sales agent account can see. To limit a rep to a territory, your admin uses sales agent groups.
  • The store's accounting system connected, such as Xero, for invoices and payment status on Receivables. See Accountancy integrations.
  • The Quoting Engine, for quotes on Quotes. See Set up quotes.

Open Pulse

Pulse opens inside the SparkLayer widget when you're signed in to your store with your sales agent account.

  1. Sign in to your store with your sales agent account. The SparkLayer widget opens in Sales Agent mode.
  2. Click Dashboard. Pulse opens on the Overview.

The widget's tabs

For a sales rep with Pulse, the widget has these tabs:

TabWhat it opens
DashboardPulse.
CatalogThe Catalog, to browse and add products. Shown if your store uses the Catalog.
OrderThe cart and order builder, to order for a customer.

The My Account tab is hidden. Use the tabs to move between Pulse and ordering. Pulse widens the widget to fit its pages. Going to Catalog or Order returns the widget to its usual width.

Find your way round

Every Pulse page has the same frame around it:

The sidebar

The sidebar lists the pages in the same order as the app. A badge beside a page shows how many items need you there.

Clicking a page in the sidebar closes any panel you have open.

Set the date range

The date range sets the period for the pages that list dated records, such as orders, quotes and invoices.

  1. Click the date range at the top right of the page. It shows the start and end dates and the number of days.
  2. Choose a preset, type a Start date and End date, or click the days in the calendar.
  3. Click Apply. To keep the range you had, click Cancel or press Esc.
PresetsOptions
TrailingLast 30 days, Last 90 days, Last 6 months, Last 12 months, Last 24 months
CalendarThis month, Last month, Quarter to date, Year to date, Last year
More detail

The range starts as Last 12 months each time Pulse loads, and stays the same as you move between pages. Type dates as 23 Jul 2025 or 2025-07-23. The start must be on or before the end, and neither date can be in the future: Apply stays greyed out until they are. On a large screen the calendar shows 2 months side by side; on a phone, 1.

What the date range changes

Every page shows the date range, but only some pages use it.

Changes with the rangeAlways as of today
Activity, Orders, Quotes (by the day raised), Receivables (by the day an invoice is dated), Products, Customers, PricingOverview, Task List, Carts, Reorder radar, Retention

Not every figure on those pages follows the range. For example, the What's selling table on Products and the lists behind the Quotes and Receivables tiles count everything, whatever the range. Each page says which of its figures follow it.

On Orders and Customers, a tile's percentage compares the range with the period of the same length just before it. Charts that follow the range have a Period control: Auto picks days, weeks or months to fit the range, or choose Day, Week or Month yourself.

Where the figures come from

Pulse reads your storefront's orders and your store's connected systems. 2 labels tell you where a figure comes from:

LabelWhat it means
Online orders onlyThe figure only counts orders placed through your storefront, by the customer or by a rep in Sales Agent mode. Orders taken by phone or email, or keyed straight into your ERP, aren't included, so a total can be lower than the account's full spend. Hover over it for the full note.
Source chip, such as Orders · Shopify · Payments · Xero (or Source)Which system the order and fulfilment status, and the invoice and payment status, come from, and when each last synced. Hover over it to see the sync times.

The source chip appears on Orders, Activity, Receivables and on invoices. When you change an invoice's status in Pulse, your note sits beside the synced status. It doesn't change your accounting system.

More detail

The systems named are the ones connected to your store: your eCommerce platform for orders, and SparkLayer's Xero or QuickBooks Online integration for payments. Receivables lists Shopify orders with no payment against them, and invoices from those integrations. See Accountancy integrations.

Ask Sparkie

Sparkie answers questions about your accounts, orders, quotes and products, from the same figures Pulse shows you.

  2. Click Next and Back to move through it, or use the arrow keys.
  3. Press Esc to leave. Next time you take the tour, it picks up where you left off, with a Start again link.
