# Show or hide products

URL: https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/storefront/b2b-catalogs/configuring-your-catalogs
Applies to: Shopify

Tag Shopify customers as b2b and products as b2b-only or b2c-only to control who sees each product with B2B Catalogs, and hide variants per customer group.

> **Quick summary**
>
> - B2B Catalogs decides which products each customer sees from tags on customers and products in your Shopify admin.
> - Tag a customer `b2b` to make them a B2B customer. Tag a product `b2b-only` to show it only to B2B customers, or `b2c-only` to show it only to retail (B2C) customers.
> - To hide variants from particular customer groups, use the `sparklayer.settings` metafield. This needs the [SparkLayer Wholesale app](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/platforms/shopify/install.md) as well.

## How it works

Each customer sees the products tagged for them, and products with no tag. B2B Catalogs works this out from customer tags, product tags and variant metafields:

| What you tag | Tag or metafield | What it does |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Customer | `b2b` | Marks the customer as a B2B customer. |
| Product | `b2b-only` | Hides the product from retail (B2C) customers. Only customers tagged `b2b` see it. |
| Product | `b2c-only` | Hides the product from B2B customers. Only retail (B2C) customers see it. |
| Variant | `sparklayer.settings` | Hides the product for a customer group when every variant is hidden for that group. See [Hide products from a customer group](#hide-products-from-a-customer-group). |

Products with neither tag are shown to everyone.

## Mark a customer as B2B

1. In your Shopify admin, go to **Customers** ([open in the Shopify admin](https://admin.shopify.com/customers)) and open the customer.
2. Add the tag `b2b` and click **Save**.

**More detail**

This is the same `b2b` tag SparkLayer uses to identify [B2B customers](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/glossary.md#b2b-customer), so customers you've already set up for SparkLayer don't need another tag.

## Make a product B2B-only or B2C-only

1. In your Shopify admin, go to **Products** ([open in the Shopify admin](https://admin.shopify.com/products)) and open the product.
2. Add the tag `b2b-only` or `b2c-only` and click **Save**.

**More detail**

A hidden product is hidden on product pages, collection pages and in store search. If a customer opens its URL directly, they see the [access denied page](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/storefront/b2b-catalogs/configuring-access-denied-view.md). Products already in a customer's cart stay there: see [B2B Catalogs limitations](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/storefront/b2b-catalogs/limitations.md).

## Hide products from a customer group

This needs the [SparkLayer Wholesale app](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/platforms/shopify/install.md) as well as B2B Catalogs.

To hide a whole product from one customer group, hide every one of its variants from that group. You do this with [SparkLayer's variant-level selling rules](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/storefront/product-settings.md#available-product-settings) in the `sparklayer.settings` metafield, by setting `display` to `false` for the group.

When all of a product's variants are hidden for the signed-in customer's customer group, B2B Catalogs hides the product too.

For how to write the rules, see [Catalogs per customer group](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/storefront/b2b-catalogs/configuring-advanced-catalogs.md).
