# Pulse

URL: https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse

Pulse is your sales rep workspace in the storefront: who to contact today, your tasks, quotes, carts, unpaid invoices and how each account is trading.

> **Pulse is in early access.** Request it for your sales team. [Request early access](https://feedback.sparklayer.io/get-started?choice=now). [Try the interactive demo](https://www.sparklayer.io/pulse/).

> **Quick summary**
>
> - **Pulse** is where you run your accounts from one screen: who to contact today and why, the follow-ups you've promised, quotes to chase, carts to finish, unpaid invoices and how each account is trading.
> - Open it from the **Dashboard** tab in the SparkLayer widget on your store, signed in with your sales agent account.
> - Every **Order** button in Pulse takes you straight into an order for that customer, at their prices. See [Sales rep ordering](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/sales-ordering.md).
> - Pulse is on every paid plan, for anyone with a sales agent seat, and is in early access: request it from the callout at the top of this page. Your store owner or admin sets up your sales agent account at **Sales Agents > Agents** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/v2/customers/agents)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Sales agents** in the Shopify app: see [Sales rep setup](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/sales-reps.md) and [Plans and features](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/plans-and-features.md). Figures cover orders placed through your storefront only.

## What Pulse does for you

You look after a set of accounts, sometimes called your book. Pulse reads those accounts' orders, quotes, carts, invoices and trade applications, and turns them into a list of things to do: who's due to reorder, who has gone quiet, which customers are waiting on a reply, which quotes are going stale and which invoices are overdue.

Every row opens the record behind it. Every **Order** button takes you into the storefront, signed in as that customer.

Pulse doesn't change your store's SparkLayer settings. Customers, pricing and sales agents are still managed in the SparkLayer Dashboard or the SparkLayer Wholesale app in Shopify.

## Where Pulse fits in the Sales reps section

Pulse is one of 3 parts of the Help Center's Sales reps section:

| Part | Who it's for | Use it to |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Pulse (this part, early access) | You, the sales rep | Plan the day, follow up and keep track of your accounts. |
| [Sales rep ordering](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/sales-ordering.md) | You, the sales rep | Take an order for a customer: in the cart, from the Catalog or at a trade counter with Counter mode. |
| [Sales rep setup](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/sales-reps.md) | Your store owner or admin | Make someone a sales agent, and choose which customers they see and what their role lets them do. |

## Before you start

Your store owner or admin sets these up. If an account, invoice or quote is missing from Pulse, check these with them.

- **Pulse turned on for your store.** It's on every paid plan, and in early access: request it from the callout at the top of this page.
- **A sales agent account.** See [Make someone a sales agent](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/sales-reps.md#make-someone-a-sales-agent).
- **The right customers.** Pulse shows the customers your sales agent account can see. To limit a rep to a territory, your admin uses [sales agent groups](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/sales-reps.md#restrict-which-customers-a-sales-agent-can-see).
- **The store's accounting system connected**, such as Xero, for invoices and payment status on [Receivables](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/receivables.md). See [Accountancy integrations](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/integrations/accountancy.md).
- **The Quoting Engine**, for quotes on [Quotes](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/quotes.md). See [Set up quotes](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/ordering/quoting.md).

## Open Pulse

Pulse opens inside the SparkLayer widget when you're signed in to your store with your sales agent account.

1. Sign in to your store with your sales agent account. The SparkLayer widget opens in Sales Agent mode.
2. Click **Dashboard**. Pulse opens on the **Overview**.

### The widget's tabs

For a sales rep with Pulse, the widget has these tabs:

| Tab | What it opens |
| --- | --- |
| **Dashboard** | Pulse. |
| **Catalog** | The [Catalog](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/sales-ordering/catalog.md), to browse and add products. Shown if your store uses the Catalog. |
| **Order** | The cart and order builder, to [order for a customer](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/sales-ordering/order-for-a-customer.md). |

The **My Account** tab is hidden. Use the tabs to move between Pulse and ordering. Pulse widens the widget to fit its pages. Going to **Catalog** or **Order** returns the widget to its usual width.

## Find your way round

Every Pulse page has the same frame around it:

| Part | What it shows / does |
| --- | --- |
| Sidebar | The Pulse pages, in 3 groups (see below), with **Search** above them. On a phone, tap **Menu** at the top of the page to open it. |
| **Search** | Finds accounts, orders, quotes, invoices, carts, trade applications, products and Pulse pages. Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) on any page. See [Search Pulse](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/records.md#search-pulse). |
| Date range | Top right of every page. Sets the period for the pages that list dated records. See [Set the date range](#set-the-date-range). |
| Side panels | Click an account, order, quote, invoice, cart or application to open it in a panel on the right, without leaving the page. See [Account, order and quote details](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/records.md). |
| Sparkie | A bar at the foot of each page that cycles through questions about that page. Click it to ask Sparkie about your accounts. See [Ask Sparkie](#ask-sparkie). |
| **Give feedback** | At the foot of the sidebar. Sends your comments to the team building Pulse. |
| **Take the tour** | At the foot of the sidebar. Replays the guided tour. |

### The sidebar

The sidebar lists the pages in the same order as the app. A badge beside a page shows how many items need you there.

| Page | Group | Badge |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Overview](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/overview.md) | (top) | The accounts in **Today's queue** on the Task List. |
| [Task List](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/task-list.md) | (top) | Tasks overdue or due today, plus customers waiting on your reply. The badge is red when any task is overdue. |
| [Activity](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/activity.md) | (top) | None |
| [Orders](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/orders.md), [Carts](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/carts.md), [Quotes](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/quotes.md), [Receivables](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/receivables.md), [Products](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/products.md) | **TRADE** | None |
| [Customers](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/customers.md) | **CUSTOMERS** | Trade applications still **New** or **In review**, which you review on its **Applications** tab. |
| [Pricing](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/pricing.md), [Reorder radar](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/reorder-radar.md), [Retention](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/retention.md) | **CUSTOMERS** | None |

Clicking a page in the sidebar closes any panel you have open.

## Set the date range

The date range sets the period for the pages that list dated records, such as orders, quotes and invoices.

1. Click the date range at the top right of the page. It shows the start and end dates and the number of days.
2. Choose a preset, type a **Start date** and **End date**, or click the days in the calendar.
3. Click **Apply**. To keep the range you had, click **Cancel** or press Esc.

| Presets | Options |
| --- | --- |
| **Trailing** | **Last 30 days**, **Last 90 days**, **Last 6 months**, **Last 12 months**, **Last 24 months** |
| **Calendar** | **This month**, **Last month**, **Quarter to date**, **Year to date**, **Last year** |

**More detail**

The range starts as **Last 12 months** each time Pulse loads, and stays the same as you move between pages. Type dates as 23 Jul 2025 or 2025-07-23. The start must be on or before the end, and neither date can be in the future: **Apply** stays greyed out until they are. On a large screen the calendar shows 2 months side by side; on a phone, 1.

### What the date range changes

Every page shows the date range, but only some pages use it.

| Changes with the range | Always as of today |
| --- | --- |
| [Activity](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/activity.md), [Orders](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/orders.md), [Quotes](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/quotes.md) (by the day raised), [Receivables](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/receivables.md) (by the day an invoice is dated), [Products](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/products.md), [Customers](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/customers.md), [Pricing](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/pricing.md) | [Overview](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/overview.md), [Task List](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/task-list.md), [Carts](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/carts.md), [Reorder radar](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/reorder-radar.md), [Retention](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/retention.md) |

Not every figure on those pages follows the range. For example, the **What's selling** table on Products and the lists behind the Quotes and Receivables tiles count everything, whatever the range. Each page says which of its figures follow it.

On Orders and Customers, a tile's percentage compares the range with the period of the same length just before it. Charts that follow the range have a **Period** control: **Auto** picks days, weeks or months to fit the range, or choose **Day**, **Week** or **Month** yourself.

## Where the figures come from

Pulse reads your storefront's orders and your store's connected systems. 2 labels tell you where a figure comes from:

| Label | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| **Online orders only** | The figure only counts orders placed through your storefront, by the customer or by a rep in Sales Agent mode. Orders taken by phone or email, or keyed straight into your ERP, aren't included, so a total can be lower than the account's full spend. Hover over it for the full note. |
| Source chip, such as **Orders · Shopify · Payments · Xero** (or **Source**) | Which system the order and fulfilment status, and the invoice and payment status, come from, and when each last synced. Hover over it to see the sync times. |

The source chip appears on [Orders](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/orders.md), [Activity](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/activity.md), [Receivables](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/receivables.md) and on invoices. When you change an invoice's status in Pulse, your note sits beside the synced status. It doesn't change your accounting system.

**More detail**

The systems named are the ones connected to your store: your eCommerce platform for orders, and SparkLayer's Xero or QuickBooks Online integration for payments. [Receivables](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/receivables.md) lists Shopify orders with no payment against them, and invoices from those integrations. See [Accountancy integrations](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/integrations/accountancy.md).

## Ask Sparkie

Sparkie answers questions about your accounts, orders, quotes and products, from the same figures Pulse shows you.

1. Click the Sparkie bar at the foot of the page.
2. Click a suggested question, or type your own, such as "Where should I focus today?", and press Enter.
3. Under the answer, click an account Sparkie names to **Open account**, **Prep for visit**, start a **New order** or **Plan outreach**.

**More detail**

Each page suggests its own questions, and the panel lists up to 3 accounts under **Needs you today**. Your chats are kept under **Recent chats** in this browser. Sparkie reads only your own accounts: check its answer before you act on it. The bar hides while a side panel is open.

## Change the theme

1. Click your initials at the top right of the widget.
2. Under **Theme**, click **Light** or **Dark**.

Pulse remembers your choice.

## Take the guided tour

The tour starts the first time you open Pulse. It highlights each page in the sidebar, the main parts of the Overview, the date range, search and Sparkie, one tooltip at a time.

1. To replay it, click **Take the tour** at the foot of the sidebar, or in the menu under your initials.
2. Click **Next** and **Back** to move through it, or use the arrow keys.
3. Press Esc to leave. Next time you take the tour, it picks up where you left off, with a **Start again** link.

**More detail**

Click **Read aloud** on the first card, or the speaker on any step, to have your browser read each step out. Click it again to stop. You can't click the page while the tour is running.

## Give feedback

Pulse is in early access, so features and labels may change. Feedback goes straight to the team building Pulse.

1. Click **Give feedback** at the foot of the sidebar.
2. Under **What's it about?**, choose **Something's wrong**, **Idea**, **Question** or **Praise**.
3. Type **Your feedback**. To include a picture, click **Add a screenshot** or paste one.
4. Click **Send feedback**, or press ⌘+Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows).

**More detail**

For a problem, tick **This is stopping me working** if it blocks you, so the team looks at it first. Leave **You can contact me about this** ticked if you're happy for the team to reply by email. If Pulse doesn't know your email address, type it under **Your email**. Your feedback also includes the page you were on, the account you had open and your browser details, to help the team reproduce a problem. If it can't be sent, click **Copy my feedback** so you don't lose it, then **Try again**.

## FAQs

**Which accounts does Pulse show?**

The accounts you look after: the customers your sales agent account can see. Your store owner or admin decides which customers those are. See [Restrict which customers a sales agent can see](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/sales-reps.md#restrict-which-customers-a-sales-agent-can-see).

**Why is a total in Pulse lower than in our ERP?**

Pulse only counts orders placed through your storefront. Orders taken by phone, by email or entered straight into your ERP aren't in its figures.

**Why doesn't the date range change every page?**

Some pages show where things stand today: the Overview, Task List, Carts, Reorder radar and Retention. The date range only filters pages that list dated records, such as orders, quotes and invoices. See [What the date range changes](#what-the-date-range-changes).

**Does Pulse send emails to my customers?**

Only when you message a customer on an order or quote with **Send as email**, and **Timeline and communications** is on for your store: your message is emailed to them and shows on the order or quote in their account. See [Message the customer](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/records.md#message-the-customer-on-an-order-or-quote) and [Order timeline and messages](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/customers/timeline.md). Reminders for quotes and invoices are drafts for you to copy into your own email: see [Send a reminder](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pulse/records.md#send-a-reminder).

**Can I use Pulse on my phone?**

Yes. On a phone, the sidebar folds away: tap **Menu** at the top of the page to open it, or the search icon beside it to search. Tables show fewer columns, and some buttons, such as **Prep** on the Overview, only show on a larger screen.
