Answers to common SparkLayer pricing questions on automatic and manual price lists, tiered pricing, gross prices and currencies, plus diagnosing pricing issues.

## Setting up prices

**Do I need product SKUs when uploading pricing?**

Yes. SparkLayer matches prices to products by SKU. Without a unique SKU in your store (for example Shopify), a product can't show the right B2B price when customers sign in.

**Why isn't my B2B pricing showing on my website?**

Check that:

- You've **imported a price list** at **Pricing > Price lists** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/pricing/lists)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Pricing > Price lists** in the Shopify app and **assigned it to a customer group** at **Customers > Groups** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/customers/groups)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Customers > Customer groups** in the Shopify app.
- All your products have **unique SKUs**.
- The **SKU exists** in your product catalogue.
- The product's status in your store admin is **Active**. SparkLayer only imports prices for active products, not products in **Draft** status.

Then follow the steps in [diagnosing pricing issues](#diagnosing-pricing-issues).

**How do I show the gross price?**

Turn on **Tax-inclusive prices** at **Settings > Configurations > Pricing and cart** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/configuration/settings/general)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Settings > Configurations > Pricing and cart** in the Shopify app. It shows gross prices, labelled "inc. tax", on the price lists you choose. Prices are still charged net, and tax is calculated at checkout. See [tax-inclusive price display](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/pricing-display.md#show-tax-inclusive-prices).

By default, SparkLayer shows prices net (excluding tax), whatever tax setting you use on your store. Customers see exactly the prices you upload.

Some merchants use a workaround instead:

1. Set the customer as tax exempt in your eCommerce platform (for example Shopify), so their orders are zero-rated for tax.
2. In the price lists you upload to SparkLayer, enter gross amounts (even though they don't technically include tax).
3. Report on the tax amounts afterwards, for example in your accounting system.

**How do I show RRP (MSRP) pricing?**

Add an `rrp` metafield to your product variants. See [Show an RRP (MSRP) price](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/pricing-display.md#show-an-rrp-msrp-price).

**How do I set up and manage several currencies?**

SparkLayer supports several currencies by default: create a price list in each currency and assign it to the right customers. On Shopify, see [Shopify Markets and currencies](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/platforms/shopify/markets-and-currencies.md).

**Can I set B2B prices higher than my retail (DTC) prices?**

Yes. Use a percentage increase on an automatic price list, or upload the higher prices.

**Can I set up different automatic pricing rules based on product collections?**

Not directly: SparkLayer has no built-in way to apply B2B pricing to selected collections (or categories). As a workaround:

1. Create a [separate price list](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/managing-pricing.md#create-a-price-list) for each collection you need (Collection A, Collection B and so on).
2. At **Customers > Groups** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/customers/groups)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Customers > Customer groups** in the Shopify app, assign the price lists each customer group should see. You can assign **several** price lists to a customer group.

## Automatic price lists

**How do I set up automatic price lists (based on my retail prices with a discount)?**

Create a price list and tick **Enable automatic pricing**, choose your store's prices as the pricing source and apply a percentage variation. See [Set up automatic pricing](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/managing-pricing.md#set-up-automatic-pricing).

**How can I override pricing for some products if I'm using an automatic price list?**

Set exact prices for those products on the automatic list. This lets you automate your pricing and still set specific prices for some products.

- **For one product:** in the **Pricing > Price editor** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/pricing/editor)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Pricing > Price editor** in the Shopify app, open the variant and click **Override for this SKU** on the list's card. See [Override an automatic price for one SKU](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/price-editor.md#override-an-automatic-price-for-one-sku).
- **For many products:** at **Pricing > Price lists** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/pricing/lists)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Pricing > Price lists** in the Shopify app, click **Upload** next to your automatic price list and upload a CSV file with the prices you want to set. See [Upload prices by CSV](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/csv-upload.md).

The list's **Type** then shows how many SKUs you've set, for example **Automatic + 12 SKU**.

**If I change a price in my store, how quickly do automatic price lists update?**

Straight away. Price changes in your platform update your automatic price lists instantly.

## Manual price lists

**How do I remove a product's price from a manual price list?**

| To remove | Do this |
| --- | --- |
| **Some prices for one product** | In the **Pricing > Price editor** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/pricing/editor)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Pricing > Price editor** in the Shopify app, search for the product, open the variant and click **Remove** next to the prices you want to delete. |
| **Prices for several SKUs** | Clear the price list (below), then upload a CSV file with only the prices you want to keep. A blank price in a CSV file doesn't remove a price. |
| **Every price for every product** | Open the **⋯** menu next to the price list, click **Clear**, then **Clear prices**. |

**How do I clear (empty) a manual price list?**

At **Pricing > Price lists** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/pricing/lists)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Pricing > Price lists** in the Shopify app, open the **⋯** menu next to the price list, click **Clear**, then **Clear prices**. This removes every SKU price uploaded to the list. On an automatic list, the automatic rule stays.

**How do I see prices I’ve already uploaded?**

- Download the price list as a CSV file: at **Pricing > Price lists** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/pricing/lists)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Pricing > Price lists** in the Shopify app, open the **⋯** menu next to the price list and click **Download CSV**.
- Search for a product in the [Price editor](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/price-editor.md) and open the variant to see its price on every list.
- Sign in to your store as a B2B customer and view the product page. See [Test as a B2B customer](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/customers/add-customers-to-a-group.md#test-as-a-b2b-customer) to make sure you're signed in correctly.

## Assigning prices to customers

**Can I assign several price lists to one customer group or customer?**

Yes. At **Customers > Groups** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/customers/groups)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Customers > Customer groups** in the Shopify app, click the group's name and find **Price lists** (click **+ Override** if it's under **Inherited rules**). Click **Add price list** to add another, then click **Save** in the save bar. See [Assign a price list to customers](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/managing-pricing.md#assign-a-price-list-to-customers).

If a SKU is in more than one of the price lists, the first list it's in wins: see [Which price list wins](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/managing-pricing.md#price-list-order). To give a single customer several price lists, see [Prices for one customer](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/customer-pricing.md).

**Which price wins when a product is in several price lists?**

The first price list, in the order shown on the customer group, that contains the SKU. See [Which price list wins](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/managing-pricing.md#price-list-order).

**How do I assign a price list to a specific customer?**

Add the price list's handle to the customer's price lists field (the `price_lists` metafield) on their record in your store admin. The customer then sees that price list instead of their customer group's. See [Give a customer their own price lists](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/customer-pricing.md#give-a-customer-their-own-price-lists).

## Quantity pricing

**How do I set up quantity (tiered) pricing?**

Add a `qty` column to your price list CSV, with a row for each price break. See [Quantity pricing](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/quantity-pricing.md).

**Do I need a price for a single unit if I use quantity pricing?**

Yes. When you import a price list with tiered pricing, include a price for a single unit for every SKU. For example:

```csv
sku,price,qty
123-abc,14.99,1
123-abc,10.99,5
```

## Discounts

**How do I set up coupon codes for checkout?**

Create a discount and require a coupon code, for example a code that gives 10% off the order. Discounts need the Growth plan. See [Require a coupon code](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/discounts.md#require-a-coupon-code).

**How do I discount a collection or product range?**

Add a rule to the discount: under **Rules**, click **New rule** and choose the products, collections or tags the cart must include. See [Restrict a discount to certain products](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/discounts.md#restrict-a-discount-to-certain-products). For more off as the quantity goes up, use [volume tiers](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/discounts.md#set-up-volume-tiers).

Without discounts, there's a workaround:

1. Create a new product in your catalogue with a variant for each product you want to include in the offer.
2. Set a [minimum product quantity](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/storefront/quantity-rules.md), which makes the customer order at least a set number of the product (for example 3).
3. Use [quantity pricing](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/quantity-pricing.md) to set the discounted rates (for example buy 3 and the price is 10% lower).
4. In Shopify, hide these products from retail customers by not adding them to a collection.

**How do I set up discounts based on an order total?**

Use order sub-total limits or order item limits, so a discount applies once the order total or the number of items reaches a threshold. See [Set minimum or maximum order requirements](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/discounts.md#set-minimum-or-maximum-order-requirements).

## Diagnosing pricing issues

If prices still aren't right after the checks above, find where the price is missing. To check whether a product has prices on a price list:

1. Go to the **Pricing > Price editor** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/pricing/editor)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Pricing > Price editor** in the Shopify app and search for the product's name or SKU.
2. Open the variant.
3. Check its card for each price list. A manual list without a price for the SKU means customers on that list won't see a price from it.

To check that SparkLayer has the product at all, use **Product data lookup** at **Integrations > Product sync** in the SparkLayer Dashboard ([open](https://app.sparklayer.io/integrations/products-sync)), or **SparkLayer Wholesale > Integrations > Product sync** in the Shopify app. See [Product and customer sync](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/integrations/data-sync.md).

If you're using the [SparkLayer API](https://docs.sparklayer.io/developers/api.md), your developer can also check the price data there.

For other common problems, see [Troubleshooting](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/troubleshooting.md).
