# Limitations

Check what SparkLayer can't do on Shopify: no Shopify discounts, unique SKUs, a 350-line cart limit, tax and duties handling, app customisations and Companies.

> - SparkLayer works on every Shopify plan, but a few Shopify features and setups aren't supported.
> - The ones most stores meet: Shopify discounts can't be used alongside SparkLayer, and every product needs a unique SKU.
> - Carts hold up to 350 line items by default. Our support team can raise this to 500.
> - Duties, prices that include tax, and orders that mix taxable and tax-exempt products need a workaround, often a separate B2B store.

## Limitations and workarounds

Each row explains the limitation and, where there is one, the workaround.

| Limitation | What it means and what to do |
| --- | --- |
| **Discounts** | You can't use Shopify discounts alongside SparkLayer. Use SparkLayer's own [discounts](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/pricing/discounts.md) for B2B discounts and promotions instead. |
| **Product SKUs** | Every product must have a SKU in Shopify, and each SKU must be unique. |
| **Product customisations from apps** | If an app adds customisations to your products, such as a text-entry field, they don't show in SparkLayer's [frontend interfaces](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/storefront/interfaces.md). SparkLayer only shows the variants in Shopify's own catalogue, such as size and colour. A developer can add customisations with the [JavaScript SDK](https://docs.sparklayer.io/developers/javascript-sdk/cart.md#custom-attributes-and-files), as custom development. |
| **Cart line items** | Carts are limited to 350 line items by default, because of Shopify API performance. On request, our [support team](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/support.md) can raise this to 500. |
| **Tax-exempt products** | If you use line-item tax exemptions in your product catalogue, SparkLayer can't handle tax correctly on an order that mixes tax-included and tax-exempt products. |
| **Prices that include tax** | If your store is set to include taxes in prices, SparkLayer can't calculate gross prices correctly. We recommend a separate B2B store with this setting off, where SparkLayer can show net prices. |
| **Duties** | Shopify's API doesn't include duties, so SparkLayer can't add them to the cart as a separate charge. If you charge duties, turn them off at **Settings > Taxes and duties** ([open in the Shopify admin](https://admin.shopify.com/settings/taxes/duties/management)), or create a separate B2B store. We'll add support when Shopify makes it available. |
| **Shopify Companies** | Shopify's own B2B checkout, catalogs and pricing don't run alongside SparkLayer for the same customer: the ordering experience is one or the other. See [Shopify Companies](https://docs.sparklayer.io/help/platforms/shopify/companies.md). |
